G2 Informer
Nichols Applied Technology will soon be announcing the exclusive availability of the G2 Informer series of electrical contacts and Online Monitoring for contact wear. This Game-Changing technology is in the final stages of development and will be available exclusively through NAT.
The net benefit to users of the G2 Informer will be the ability to accurately detect the “Full Useful Life” (FUL) of the contacts. Once the FUL has been reached, replacement of the contacts can be efficiently scheduled and performed. Users of G2 Informer Technology will be able to reasonably expect a 30% to 50% increase in service life of the contacts. This essentially provides the user a lower cost of ownership.
Detection of the trace material (PFC) can be accomplished using traditional DGA testing or by a new online monitor currently under development by EPRI. The new online monitor measures the concentration of PFC in the headspace. The use of PFC as a trace material was developed by Brookhaven National Laboratories and is the most detectable of all non-radioactive trace materials. Detection of PFC is routinely performed in concentrations of parts per trillion (ppt). This gas is currently used by National Grid and Consolidated Edison for the detection of leaks in underground conductor cables.
